“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.” – Cicero
Did you know you have a secret weapon that can help you get everything you want in life? It can help you appreciate where you are at now, make the journey to where you want to be significantly more enjoyable, and can help you attract the very things in life you seek!
And best of all… it’s free and accessible to everyone. Even Oprah credits this secret weapon with ‘turning up the volume of her life’.
There is even a significant body of scientific research that backs me up on this one. Scientists now have research that shows that people who use this secret weapon consistently report a host of benefits:
- Greater feelings of control over your destiny and ability to achieve your objectives
- Stronger immune systems and lower blood pressure
- Higher levels of positive emotions
- More joy, optimism, and happiness
- Acting with more generosity and compassion
- Feeling less lonely and isolated
Have you figured out what your secret weapon is?
That’s right… It’s GRATITUDE.
Some of this research was performed by Dr. Robert Emmons – who has discovered what gives life meaning: You guessed it… Gratitude.
So, I want you to learn the Art of Gratitude this year… (Not thankfulness, but Gratitude – believe it or not… there is a difference – read this blog post for more on that).
Dr. Emmons, a University of California, Davis professor, has found that people who treat life as a gift and consciously (and “consciously” is a big differentiator) develop an “Attitude of Gratitude” have the ability to experience all the benefits listed above.
Here is what I know to be true in my own personal live…
Once I shifted my attitude, all of the things that I wanted started coming into my life…
- I stopped focusing on what was wrong with my life… and started being grateful for the abundance I already had
- I stopped being a victim, and starting feeling grateful for every powerful thought and action
- I stopped looking at the glass as half empty, and started being grateful for the glass that was half full
I stopped feeling resentful for the things I didn’t have… and started feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for what I did have.
Gratitude was the key ingredient for me to make this change. There was a time in my life when I felt that I had nothing, felt like I was nothing, and worth nothing. Trust me, that’s a dark place to be, and it’s not a place of power or creativity. When I made the mental shifts, starting with a practice of gratitude, all of the pieces of my life started falling into place. The business I wanted started taking shape. My home and family life shifted. I started attracting people and events that supported my vision for my future.
So… this is what I know for sure…
My ability to be a global movement maker… to make a difference in your life… to bring you these programs, seminars, and coaching programs… all started with a deliberate and consistent practice of shifting to a place of gratitude. Without gratitude, I would not be writing this to you right now. Without gratitude, I would still be in that dark, depressing, powerless state that I found myself in (very unexpectedly) several years ago.
It may seem counter-intuitive to you… That you have to feel gratitude before you can have some of the things you want in life. But life is often that way… Until you appreciate what you have, you don’t have room in your heart and life to receive the blessings you seek. Where there is resentment, bitterness, jealousy or scarcity, you block the flow of abundance into your life.
Dr. Emmons says… “Without gratitude, life can be lonely, depressing and impoverished.” I know this to be true in my own life. Gratitude is THE cornerstone to an empowering, enriching and satisfying life!
So cultivate an attitude of gratitude, ESPECIALLY when times are tough, in order to make the shifts you need to reach your highest objectives and potential. If you are in a place of stress or anxiety, or a place not full of gratitude and love, read this blog post and I will tell you a bit more about my dark place and how I was able to make the shift, in spite of the circumstances around me. This article gives you the step-by-step guide to the daily gratitude practice I used to go from “victim” to “victor”.
I think Sanaya Roman, summed it up succinctly… “Whatever you appreciate and give thanks for will increase in your life.”
So, on this week of THANKS-Giving, I am overwhelmingly GRATEFUL to have each and every one of you as part of my life. I cherish each email or Facebook post I receive from you, and I’m eternally GRATEFUL for the opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas with a community of like-minded people who want to make a profound difference in the world.
