This week, I worked on my goals and plans for 2015. I put together my vision of the direction I want my life and business to take, and I mapped out the high level activities and decisions I need to make to get there. Does this guarantee success? No, but it sure makes it easier for me to make informed choices on how bad I want my dreams to become my reality.
Here’s the deal.
It’s great to have dreams and goals. But just having the dream or vision isn’t enough to create the results.
To get results you have to have a plan on HOW you intend to go after your goals.
A plan gives you several great advantages over just having an intention or a goal.
First – with a plan, you make some key decisions about the order in which you will create your vision. Once you’ve made those key decisions on what to do first, second, etc., then you can let go of worrying about it. This frees up your mind to focus on day-to-day activities.
Secondly – if you have a plan, you now have the ability to make more informed choices on a daily basis on how to spend your time. So when you find yourself saying, “I can’t afford it”… or “I don’t have the time”, you can turn that disempowering statement into a more empowering one.
“What do I need to do to be able to create the time I need?”
“How bad do I really want this goal? Bad enough to make the changes necessary to create it?”
Without having the mental energy to focus on your task and the ability to make nourishing choices that support your goals, you don’t really have the ability to create the life of meaning or the business that supports you.
All you have is a dream. And a dream alone – without a plan – won’t get you too far.
So, time to get honest with yourself now.
How bad do you want it?
Do you want it bad enough to commit to a plan on paper? If so, then let’s get started! Find yourself a notebook, and we’ll spend the next couple of blog articles talking about how to build your business plan.
Your homework for this week is to get crystal clear on 2 things…
1 – From a business perspective, what is my heart’s desire??
Drop down from your head and into your heart. Allow your dreams to fill you with passion and write down what it is you want to create in your business in 2015.
2 – Why is this dream important to me?
Drop from your heart now and go into your gut. This is your power chakra, located in your solar plexus region. Write down why this business dream is so important to you. What do you get out of this? Money? Freedom? Emotional satisfaction? Meaning? Write it all down.
Collectively, the answers to these 2 questions will create powerful intention and energy. “WHAT do I want and WHY do I want this?” are the 2 most powerful questions you can answer to set yourself up for success.
And without knowing these answers, it’s impossible to put together a solid actionable plan.
Stay tuned for next week, where will ask even more powerful questions on how to get what you want!
